Trash-filled apartment complex in southeast Houston faces foreclosure after residents complain

Houston, Texas – The Arlington Place apartments on Edgebrook Drive, the focus of several KPRC 2 reports, have filed for foreclosure.

According to the Harris County Clerk’s Office, the foreclosure was filed on Tuesday, July 16. The complex is scheduled to sell on Tuesday, August 6.

For months, residents have had to deal with piles of trash after Waste Management removed its dumpsters. The company has not disclosed why, but the Houston Department of Neighborhoods said the owners, the Chetrit Group, abandoned the property.

“The apartment complex at 116 E. Edgebrook has been abandoned by the owner, leaving residents without trash removal service. The Department of Neighborhoods has attempted to reach the owner with no success,” a Department of Neighborhoods spokesperson told KPRC 2 in February.

Before the dumpsters were removed, the trash overflowed. Tenants told KPRC 2’s Rilwan Balogun that in February, they had no choice but to leave the trash out since they were still paying for it.

“If we’re constantly giving you money every month, you can’t tell me we’re giving you this amount of money every month and someone can’t come and pick up that trash,” Winfree asked.

Navy veteran Cindy Rogers compared life at the compound to her time in the service.

“I come from the military, so I’m used to it,” Rogers said. “I can handle it.”

The Houston Health Department wrote 30 tickets between January 8 and February 6.

The city eventually cleaned up the trash piles after KPRC 2 reported and placed large dumpsters on the property.

Chetrit Group’s other Houston-area property in Baytown, Forest View Apartments, has also been filed for foreclosure.
