Akron police search for suspect who attacked jogger

The attack occurred on June 28 on the Towpath Trail near the West Bartges Trailhead. Akron police report the victim is physically fine.

AKRON, Ohio – Akron police are searching for a suspect accused of attacking a woman who was jogging on the Towpath Trail near the West Bartges Trailhead.

According to police, another person intervened along the way and rescued the victim, but the attacker is still at large.

The attack occurred on June 28 at around 8:30 p.m. According to police, the woman was attacked from behind while jogging and knocked to the ground.

According to police, another man witnessed the incident and chased the attacker away. The victim was taken to the hospital for her injuries, but police say she is physically fine.

“I think it’s a good example that if you’re out and about and see something strange, don’t hesitate to call us,” said Akron Police Lt. Matt Whitmire. “In this particular case, I’m obviously not going to advise anyone to take the law into their own hands, but I’m just very grateful that this person was there and was able to scare the attacker away.”

While the police are still looking for the person responsible, they have an idea of ​​what the suspect looks like.

He is described as a white man, approximately 5’10” tall and of slim build.

Whitmire says the department has increased security measures in direct response to the attack. Now, officers are patrolling the area and have cleared surrounding buildings to ensure there are no threats.
