Patient kills roommate at Norristown State Hospital – NBC10 Philadelphia

Police in Montgomery County are investigating after a patient at Norristown State Hospital was found dead in his room on Sunday.

And authorities have charged the man’s roommate with his murder.

According to police officials, officers were called to Norristown State Hospital around 9:45 p.m. Sunday after 25-year-old Jacob Gonzalez was found unconscious and slumped in his bed.

Another patient, 34-year-old Kyle Samuels-Robey, who shared a room with Gonzalez, was charged with murder in connection with that incident.

Police said that at around 9:30 p.m. that evening, a hospital security guard looked into the two men’s common room and saw them both lying in their beds.

The staff member, officials said, told Gonzalez to get his medication, and just three minutes later, at 9:33 p.m., Samuels-Roby asked nurses at the hospital for ice for his swollen hand.

According to police, nurses and security personnel found Gonzalez unconscious in his bed at that time.

A subsequent autopsy found that Gonzalez died of asphyxiation due to a crush injury to his neck, officials said.

Samuels-Robey is in custody at the Montgomery County Correctional Facility and is expected to face a preliminary hearing on murder charges on July 25.
