North Texas contractor arrested after failure to complete work

According to the Parker County Sheriff’s Office, the victim paid the contractor $18,000 to perform the work.

PARKER COUNTY, Texas – The Parker County Sheriff’s Office announced that 48-year-old Michael Eric Haefner was arrested Monday for grand larceny after failing to complete a job his remodeling company had been hired to do.

According to the sheriff’s office, a woman hired Haefner’s company, Freedom Remodeling, LLC, to repair damage to her home caused by a water leak in May 2022.

The sheriff’s office said a company representative quoted them a total of $23,390 for the job.

According to the sheriff’s office, a representative took the woman’s first payment of more than $18,000, but several months passed without her hearing from anyone.

After numerous attempts to contact the company, a representative finally began work in August 2022, but not much work was done and no one came to finish the job, according to the sheriff’s office.

According to the sheriff’s office, the woman requested a refund in September 2022. Three days later, the first representative contacted her and told her he no longer worked for the company and that she needed to contact the owner, Haefner.

According to the Parker County Sheriff’s Office, Haefner told the woman he would finish the job and refund her money and continued to provide excuses as to why the job was not completed, but shortly thereafter he was unavailable for several months.

In February 2023, the woman was finally able to contact Haefner, but he told her that the problem lay with the former employee and referred her back to him.

The woman filed a report with the Parker County Sheriff’s Office and investigators were able to obtain a subpoena for company records showing that the company had accepted the woman’s money, failed to complete the order, and owed the woman over $9,000.

According to the sheriff’s office, investigators were able to obtain an arrest warrant for Haefner and arrested him on Monday, July 10, on charges of theft of property.
