STANTON COUNTY, Neb. — The Stanton County Sheriff’s Office arrested a 32-year-old Houston man Friday afternoon on suspicion of being in the country illegally.

Stanton County Sheriff Mike Unger said around 3 p.m., deputies stopped a car heading south on Interstate 15, about eight miles south of Pilger.

The driver, Delvin Eberado Velasquez-Romero, 32, did not have a driver’s license and had fake Texas stickers on his windows.

Unger said the driver spoke limited English and confirmed his identity using a fingerprint instrument.

After questioning Velasquez-Romero, agents discovered he was wanted on five felony charges in Benton County, Indiana.

He was jailed on a felony warrant and is awaiting extradition to Indiana.

Authorities believe Delvin Eberado Velasquez-Romero is in the United States illegally.

“This is an example of the hard work of a deputy on patrol in a remote part of the county, doing what he was hired and trained to do,” Sheriff Mike Unger said.
