According to GSP, motorcyclist dies when pickup truck reverses in front of him

A motorcyclist was killed in a collision between two vehicles in northeast Georgia.

State police officers worked the fatal crash north of Athens early Saturday, July 6. The crash occurred around 1:10 a.m. on GA 8 at Ed Coile Road.

According to the preliminary accident investigation, a Honda motorcycle was traveling north on GA 8 while a Ford Super Duty pickup truck was backing out of a driveway. The motorcycle struck the passenger side of the truck. The motorcyclist, 51-year-old Steven Hickman of Colbert, was pronounced dead at the scene.

Georgia State Patrol Post 32 in Athens investigated the crash. Police say charges have been filed against the truck driver, 20-year-old Mario Gaona of Athens. The investigation is ongoing.

Since the start of the long Independence Day holiday weekend on July 3, at least ten people have died in traffic accidents in Georgia.
