San Marcos teen killed in Reeves Co. crash

REEVES COUNTY, Texas (KMID/KPEJ) – The Texas Department of Public Safety is investigating a crash that killed one teenager and injured another early Wednesday morning.

According to an accident report, around 6:45 a.m. on May 8, troopers responded to a single-vehicle crash on Interstate 10 near mile marker 193. At the scene of the crash, troopers found 18-year-old Brandy Marie Martinez, 18, of San Marcos, behind the wheel of a Ford Explorer; Martinez was pronounced dead at the scene. Her passenger, 19-year-old Nathan Steven Zinn, also of San Marcos, was taken to University Medical Center in El Paso for treatment of injuries sustained in the crash; He said it should be stable.


Investigators said Martinez was traveling westbound on Interstate 10 when she turned onto the improved shoulder of the curved portion of the roadway. She then overcorrected, causing the vehicle to roll over several times.

The investigation into the crash is ongoing.
