COME IN – Calvary Episcopal Church, located at 20 Milton St. at South Cayuga Road in Williamsville, offers a place to stop from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday during the Amherst Town Gardens Walk. NATURE GUIDE – The Hamburg Garden Club hosted a guided tour of native plants at Reinstein Woods Nature Preserve at 10 a.m. Wednesday, led by the preserve’s state Department of Environmental Conservation program coordinator. SUMMER HOUSE – The IMAGINE Buffalo Lecture Series is taking place at Chautauqua Institution for the summer, with speakers every Monday at 3 p.m. in the Smith Memorial Library. CALLS OF DUTY – Hats off to the environmental protection officer Ike’s Bobseinewho responded to a call June 19 about an injured bald eagle along the Thruway near Angola. While state police were conducting traffic controls, he captured the bird, an immature female, but it was too large for his vehicle’s cage.

“So he improvised,” the state Department of Environmental Conservation reported, “and protected the eagle by wrapping it in his ECO vest while it was transported to an approved rehabilitation center. The eagle was then transported to a local veterinarian for treatment.”
