OSHKOSH, WI (WTAQ-WLUK) — Neenah City Attorney David Rashid pleaded not guilty Thursday to charges of sexually assaulting his wife.

A trial date has not been set. Rashid is due back in court on August 5. He is charged with two counts of third-degree domestic violence and one count of fourth-degree domestic violence.

The case is currently being handled by Judge Mark Slate of Green Lake County.

According to the indictment, the investigation began last summer with an anonymous email sent to police accusing Rashid of abusing his ex-wife. The woman, who denied sender of the email, told investigators Rashid had had involuntary sexual contact with her on several occasions since 2017.

Rashid told his wife he did not need consent because she had given it at the wedding, the lawsuit quotes the victim as saying. According to online court records, the divorce was finalized earlier this year.

After the charges were filed, Rashid was placed on leave from Neenah.
