Spokane hit-and-run investigation: Court documents detail fatal incident | Spokane News

SPOKANE, Wash. – Court documents have revealed more details about a fatal hit-and-run crash in downtown Spokane.

According to the documents, Spokane police and firefighters responded to a reported accident at the intersection of North Browne Street and West Main on June 11. When they arrived, they found Janet Mann, 78, with life-threatening injuries. She was pronounced dead several hours later.

The Spokane Police Department (SPD) stated that witness statements and video surveillance footage showed the man being struck and subsequently run over by a truck. The truck fled the scene without stopping and cut across a nearby parking lot, where witnesses lost sight of it.

SPD received video footage from the Spokane Transit Authority showing the truck and its license plate. Through further investigation, including social media inquiries and traffic camera footage, police identified Gary Burns of Spokane Valley as the suspected owner of the truck.

Investigators used a search warrant to arrest Burns at his home. He was subsequently booked into the Spokane County Jail on a hit-and-run charge and his bail was set at $100,000.
