Crime in Surrey: Teenager allegedly sexually harassed on the way to school

The police are still searching for the two male suspects.

A teenager was allegedly sexually abused on her way to school in Surrey.

Police are asking students to be alert following the June 19 incident, which occurred at 8:20 a.m. in the 9400 block of King George Boulevard.

According to police, “two men emerged from the bushes” and allegedly groped the woman as she walked along a path near the local school.

“The youth managed to push the suspects away and get to safety,” says Cpl. Sarbjit Sangha.

There are several schools in the area where the alleged incident occurred.

Police officers responded immediately and went on patrol.

One of the suspects is described as a white man in his mid-20s. He is approximately 6′ tall, has blond hair and a goatee right at the tip of his chin. According to police, the suspect was wearing a blue shirt with white horizontal stripes and black shorts at the time.

The police do not have a description of the second suspect.

“The Surrey RCMP Youth Unit is working closely with our partners in the Surrey School District throughout the investigation,” Sangha said.

“Grobbing is a form of sexual assault and the Royal Canadian Mounted Police (RCMP) of Surrey takes these reports seriously.”

Students are asked to keep their heads up, remove headphones and avoid distractions. Police suggest students ask someone to accompany them and carry a whistle or personal alarm.

“If a stranger tries to grab you, do everything you can to prevent him from pulling you away. Fight back and do everything you can to get the attention of others who can help you,” advises Sangha.

Police continue to search the area to find the suspects.

Anyone with information or who was in the area between 8 a.m. and 8:30 a.m. is asked to contact Surrey RCMP at 604-559-8894.
