MALTA, NY (NEWS10) — The Saratoga County Sheriff’s Office announced Monday that the investigation into a fatal shooting in Malta is ongoing. The incident occurred June 14 in the Northway Estates community.

According to the sheriff’s office, during the course of the investigation it was learned that a man named Kurt Hubbard, 49, of Malta, had forced his way into a home in the trailer park and assaulted a resident. Hubbard, who was unknown to the residents, allegedly chased one of the residents into a bedroom where the other residents had retreated.

The investigation revealed that a resident of the house armed himself with a shotgun and fired two shots that struck and killed Hubbard. The residents of the house were interviewed by investigators before being released.

Saratoga County Sheriff Michael Zurlo issued a statement on the investigation: “I want to thank the residents of Northway Estates and members of the community who have come forward and assisted our investigators. As I said on Friday, I am confident there is no threat to the community. At this time, the investigation has not revealed any criminal conduct by the resident, who appears to have been defending himself in his home against an unknown individual. I would like to point out that this investigation is far from over and we will not be making any further statements until it is complete.”

Hubbard was reportedly living at the Locust Grove Motel in Malta. The sheriff’s office is being assisted by the New York State Police in the investigation.
