Houston Texans linebacker drops legendary Nick Saban quote to temper expectations

The Houston Texans are no longer a team that analysts will look to when previewing the upcoming NFL season. Heading into the 2024 season, the Texans have real expectations to win a good number of football games and make the playoffs.

Obviously, this doesn’t change anything for the Texans. Second-year head coach DeMeco Ryans still has to prove himself, showing that his first year was no fluke. CJ Stroud is a star entering his second season with real potential to win a superstar title. Overall, the Texans need to keep coming.

There is hype in Houston, and for good reason. The Texans will enter the season with the top ten odds to win the Super Bowl and the best odds to win the AFC South.

Yet one Texas defender looks to play down the hype and forget about it as Houston looks to stay grounded internally. Texans linebacker Christian Harris took inspiration from his former coach at Alabama, Nick Saban, to spread a message about slowing down the hype.

“It’s nothing but rat poison,” Harris told GoLong’s Tyler Dunne of the projections. “It’s a blessing to be in this position to have a great team and we know we have a great opportunity.”

This is something familiar to Alabama Crimson Tide fans, as Saban has shared this message often during his legendary head coaching career with the program. Harris spent three years with Saban’s program from 2019-2021.

The former third-round pick spent the last two seasons with the Texans, watching the team go from three wins to ten wins over the course of an offseason, and now his team is expected to be very, very good, which is what he faced. in Alabama.

Staying focused internally will be key for a franchise with so many expectations. Harris understands that, and it’s hard to imagine that’s not the norm in the locker room.
