Announcements of Catholic church closures shake the Diocese of Buffalo

Diocese officials reviewed data from all 160 parishes, including three-year averages of registered households, contributing households, net operating balance trends and four-year averages of the number of sacraments celebrated. They also looked at property conditions and geographic locations to make their decision. Final plans will be announced by September 1, and mergers and closures are expected to be completed by 2025.
