Temperatures rise ahead of Father’s Day weekend

WILMINGTON, NC (WECT) – Your Friday afternoon was mostly sunny and temperatures were just above 35 degrees. Rain chances are 0% Friday night, 20-30% Saturday and 0% on Father’s Day. A ridge of high pressure will move in as we begin the new week. This ridge will help keep any tropical disturbances or systems off the map.

Saturday will be hot with highs between 35 and 37 degrees and the heat index reaching nearly triple digits. Father’s Day will be a little cooler behind a front. Highs will reach 30 degrees and humidity will be a little more comfortable. Surf will stay at 25 to 26 degrees and there is a moderate risk of rip currents.

In the tropics, Invest 90-L, located several hundred miles off the Carolinas coast, will continue to stir up surf but will have little impact on our weather. Another tropical depression will form in the southern Gulf of Mexico next week and has a medium chance of developing into a tropical system.
