Maldivian seaplane crashes, 14 people remain uninjured

Malé: According to media reports on Monday, 14 people, including eleven passengers, were uninjured when a Maldivian seaplane crashed during landing.

The accident occurred on Sunday afternoon when the Trans Maldivian Airways (TMA) seaplane, which was travelling from the Seaside Finolhu resort on Baa Atoll to the Westin Maldives Miriandhoo on the same island, suffered damage to its right wing during landing, according to the news portal Edition.mv reported.

The Civil Aviation Authority said there were 11 passengers and three crew members on board the plane. Sun.mv The news portal reported this.

The CIA, which has launched an investigation into the accident, said that despite the damage to the seaplane, no one was injured in the accident.

A video shared on social media shows the seaplane taking on water as a result of the accident.

TMA has the largest seaplane fleet in the world, flying a total of 65 seaplanes, Sun.mv reported.

The Maldives consists of 1,190 coral islands grouped in a double chain of 27 atolls in the Indian Ocean. The country covers an area of ​​about 90,000 square kilometers, of which only 298 square kilometers are mainland.

Since tourism is the country’s main source of foreign exchange, tourists arriving at Malé Airport are transported by seaplanes to their holiday resorts, which are mainly located in the South and North Atolls of the Maldives.
