At this weekend’s Downtown Days Festival, a large contingent of officers from the Lee’s Summit Police Department were on site for the entire duration of the festival.

Shortly after 10 p.m. on Saturday, police were alerted to gunshots in the area of SW 3rd and Jefferson, just outside the festival grounds.

Officers arrived quickly on scene and were unable to find any suspects or victims; all those involved had quickly left the area. In addition to this incident, officers responded to several smaller emergency calls for disturbances on the festival grounds.

Officers also observed several members of the crowd of youths attempting to create artificial panic by running and pretending there was an emergency.

In one of these incidents, an elderly woman was knocked to the ground by the running crowd; she was taken to a nearby hospital with minor injuries. Officers remained on duty until the end of the festival on Sunday. No other injuries were reported.
