Victim identified after fatal stabbing in Forest Lawn

The victim of a fatal altercation that occurred last week in Calgary’s southeast Forest Lawn neighbourhood has been identified by Calgary police.

Dean Visser, 16, of Calgary, died in hospital after suffering life-threatening injuries, an autopsy conducted Sunday by the Office of the Chief Medical Examiner confirmed.

“This tragic incident should not have happened. My condolences go out to the victim’s family,” Staff Sgt. Sean Gregson said in a press release.

“The impact of an incident like this has ripple effects throughout the community. I sympathize with family and friends who are devastated by this tragic loss.”

On Thursday around 7 p.m., officers were called to the 1300 block of 41st Street SE after reports of a fight involving a weapon.

At the crime scene, police found Visser, who apparently suffered stab wounds.

A 17-year-old boy was accused of premeditated murder, police said on Saturday.
