Actor Shekhar Suman and his son Adhyayan have come out in support of actor and politician Kangana Ranaut, who was allegedly manhandled by a security guard at Chandigarh airport earlier this week.

Shekhar Suman called the incident “unfortunate” and said the Central Industrial Security Force (CISF) police officer should have expressed her disapproval in a civilized manner.

“This is very unfortunate. What the CISF constable did is illegal. I can understand that she must have lodged a complaint, but this is not the right way to express it. She could have done it in a civilised manner,” Mr Suman said.

Shekhar Suman’s son Adhyayan – who was in a relationship with wife Ranaut – nodded as the veteran actor condemned the incident.

“I completely agree with him (Shekhar Suman). Even if one has a personal grudge, it is very wrong to vent it publicly. This should not have happened,” said Adhyayan.

Adhyayan had conveyed his best wishes to Kangana on her political debut in April this year. “I think she has really succeeded in her career as an actress and I wish her all the best in her political career as well,” Adhyayan told news agency IANS.

Kangana Ranaut, who won the Lok Sabha elections from Mandi constituency in the Indian state of Himachal Pradesh, was about to board a flight to Delhi on Thursday when she was slapped by CISF police officer Kulwinder Kaur for showing “disrespect to farmers”.

The police officer was suspended and a First Information Report (FIR) was registered.
