NC: Drug dealer arrested

North Carolina drug dealer arrested, officials say

IT’S TIME FOR THE NEWS. WE HAVE A LOOK AT TODAY’S TOP STORIES. TRAFFIC AND WEATHER BEFORE YOU GET OUT THE DOOR THIS MORNING. FIRST, WE START WITH THE 80TH ANNIVERSARY OF D-DAY. THE LARGEST MILITARY SEA INVASION IN HISTORY. D-DAY IS KNOWN AS THE BEGINNING OF THE END OF WORLD WAR II. ON JUNE 6, 1944, ABOUT 150,000 ALLIED TROOPS HIT THE BEACHES OF NORMANDY IN NAZI-OCCUPIED FRANCE. 10,000 PEOPLE PERISHED. THIS IS A LIVE LOOK FROM THE CEREMONIES TAKING PLACE IN FRANCE. BUT THE OFFENSIVE WAS A TURNING POINT IN THE WAR THAT ULTIMATELY LEAD TO THE LIBERATION OF WESTERN EUROPE FROM GERMANY. LESS THAN A YEAR LATER, THIS YEAR’S ANNIVERSARY IS LIKELY TO BE THE LAST MAJOR COMMEMORATION IN WHICH THE D-DAY VETERANS, WHO ARE NOW ALMOST 100 YEARS OLD, WILL PARTICIPATE. TOMORROW IS THE LAST DAY TO VOTE EARLY FOR STATE AND LOCAL OFFICES IN THE SOUTH CAROLINA PRIMARY. ELECTION OFFICIALS IN SPARTANBURG COUNTY WANT TO MAKE SURE VOTERS ARE AWARE OF SOME CHANGES. LAST JULY, DOZENS OF VOTER REGISTRATION CHANGES TOOK EFFECT. SPARTANBURG COUNTY’S DIRECTOR OF VOTER REGISTRATION AND ELECTIONS ADVISED VOTERS TO GO ONLINE TO SC VOTES.GOV TO GET THEIR SAMPLE BALLOT AND FIND THEIR POLLING LOCATION SO THEY KNOW WHERE TO GO. POLLS WILL BE OPEN FROM 8:30 AM TO 5 PM AND COUNTY OFFICIALS ARE RECOMMENDINING MORE THAN A DOZEN PROJECTS TO IMPROVE A BUSY ROAD. OFFICIALS ARE FOCUSING ON AN APPROXIMATELY 6-MILE STRETCH OF HIGHWAY 81 FROM WRENS SCHOOL ROAD TO PIEDMONT ROAD. ALL 14 PROJECTS HAVE BEEN IDENTIFIED TO HANDLE FUTURE GROWTH AND MORE CARS ON THE ROADS. NOW WE KNOW WHAT WE NEED TO DO. THESE PROGRAMS HAVE BEEN STUDIED AND NOW WE CAN APPLY FOR FUNDING AND GRANTS AND MANY OF THESE PROGRAMS REQUIRE THAT WE HAVE SOME KIND OF STUDY DONE. COUNTY OFFICIALS SAY A STUDY RATED THE INTERSECTION WITH OLD WILLIAMSTON ROAD AS THE WORST THEY SUGGEST ADDING SEVERAL DOWNWARD LANES AND A TRAFFIC LIGHT TO IMPROVE IT. HOWEVER, FUNDING REMAINS A QUESTION MARK BUT A 1% SALES TAX IN NOVEMBER COULD FUND THE PROJECTS. THE TOURNAMENT FOR THE BMW CHARITY PRO-AM STARTS TODAY AT 648 P.M. GOLF PROS AND CELEBRITIES FROM ALL OVER THE COUNTRY ARE COMING TO PARTICIPATE. THE TOURNAMENT STARTS TODAY AND ENDS SUNDAY. ONE OF THE MOST EXCITING PARTS OF THE PRO-AM TOURNAMENT IS SEEING THE VARIOUS CELEBRITIES PLAYING. AND THIS YEAR SOME NAMES IN THE LINEUP INCLUDE FORMER MLB PLAYERS GARY SHEFFIELD AND DAVID WELLS AS WELL AS NBA PLAYERS SETH CURRY AND COMEDIAN AND ACTOR LARRY THE CABLE GUY. TONIGHT, FORMER AMERICAN IDOL STAR PHILLIP PHILLIPS WILL PERFORM A FREE CONCERT IN MORGAN SQUARE IN DOWNTOWN SPARTANBURG. THE FESTIVITIES BEGIN AT 5:00 PM WITH HIS SHOW LATER THAT EVENING. PROCEEDS FROM THE TOURNAMENT WILL BENEFIT SOUTH CAROLINA CHARITIES. IT WILL BE HELD AT THE THORNBLADE CLUB IN GREER AND THE CAROLINA COUNTRY CLUB IN SPARTANBURG. OUR CHASE JUSTICE WILL BE FEATURED LIVE ON OUR EVENING NEWS SHOW WITH TODAY’S HIGHLIGHTS. OKAY, AS WE LOOK OUTSIDE, HERE’S A LIVE VIEW FROM ASHEVILLE. CHECK THIS OUT. LOOKS LIKE A LITTLE BRUSH, RIGHT? JUST A DOT IN SOME OF THESE CLOUDS. THAT’S A NICE START TO THE DAY. IT’S GAY, IT’S HUMID. AND YES, WE’VE GOT SOME WIDE PATCHES OF FOG OUT THERE TOO. SO VISIBILITY IN ASHEVILLE IS OKAY, BUT TRAVELING SOUTH THROUGH THE UPSTATE AND EVEN PARTS OF NORTHEAST GEORGIA, WE’VE GOT JUST NO VISIBILITY IN HARTWELL, RIGHT NOW AS FAR AS HALF A MILE IN SPARTANBURG. BY THE WAY, THERE’S SOME RAIN IN THE WAY. THERE’S GOING TO BE SOME ASSORTED BLOWS OF RAIN THIS MORNING, BUT WE’RE EXPECTING THE THUNDERSTORMS IN THE AFTERNOON AND EVENING BECAUSE A COLD FRONT IS COMING THROUGH. THIS COLD FRONT IS GOING TO CREATE SOME OF THE STRONGER THUNDERSTORMS THAT ARE POSSIBLE, ESPECIALLY LATE IN THE AFTERNOON AND EARLY EVENING. BUT BEHIND IT IS MUCH, MUCH BETTER WEATHER. SO KEEP THAT IN MIND: IF YOU GET ONE OF THESE THUNDERSTORMS OR ONE OF THESE DROPS, JUST KNOW THAT TOMORROW IT’S CLEAR AND DRY. TOMORROW WE DON’T HAVE A LOT OF HUMIDITY, SO THAT’S GOING TO BE NICE TOO. WE’LL TAKE A LOOK AT YOUR FOUR DAYS PLUS, WHICH INCLUDES YOUR WHOLE WEEKEND AND PRETTY GOOD WEATHER FOR NEXT WEEK AS WELL. I’LL SHOW YOU THAT IN ABOUT 6 OR 7 MINUTES. NOW WE’LL TAKE YOU OUTSIDE, THROW A TEST ON THESE ROADS AND SEE HOW IT WORKS. FATE. THANKS, PARELLA. HERE’S A LIVE LOOK AT I-85 NEAR PELHAM ROAD IN GREENVILLE COUNTY. SOME SLOW DOWNS, BUT AGAIN, NORMAL AT THIS TIME OF THE MORNING. LET’S LOOK AT OUR TRAVEL TIMES AS WELL. THIS MORNING AT 650, I-240 TO ASHEVILLE HIGHWAY, 12 MINUTES FROM AIRPORT ROAD TO WOODRUFF ROAD, 18 MINUTES FOR YOU, AND THEN DOWNTOWN THROUGH FAIRVIEW ROAD. 13 MINUTES. SO, LOOK AT THAT. A MICHIGAN-BASED COMPANY HAS ANNOUNCED A RECALL OF 7-OUNCE CONTAINERS OF BARAKA BRAND GROUND BLACK PEPPER. THE FDA SAYS THE SEASONING COULD BE POTENTIALLY CONTAMINATED WITH SALMONELLA. THE PEPPER WAS SOLD IN RETAIL NATIONWIDE, THE FDA SAYS NO RELATED ILLNESSES HAVE BEEN REPORTED TO DATE. MICHIGAN OFFICIALS DISCOVERED THE CONTAMINATION DURING A ROUTINE SURVEILLANCE SAMPLE. ALSO AT ANDERSON INTERFAITH MINISTRIES. THEY ARE PASSING IT ON AFTER THEIR AIR CONDITIONING UNIT WAS STOLEN A LITTLE OVER A MONTH AGO. AME SAYS THEY APPROACHED COMPANIES IN THE UPSTATE AND ASKED FOR A DONATION. PHOENIX HEATING AND AIR, A LOCAL COMPANY, IS OFFERING A FREE UNIT AND INSTALLATION. LOWE’S IS ALSO OFFERING A FREE AIR CONDITIONER WHICH AIM WILL DONATE TO A NEEDY FAMILY IN THE UPSTATE. THEY WERE OVERWHELMED. SHE IS A SINGLE MOTHER OF FIVE CHILDREN, AGES RANGE 18 TO THE YOUNGEST FOUR, SO THEY NEED AIR CONDITIONING AND HAVEN’T HAD ONE IN OVER FIVE YEARS. SO THIS IS GOING TO BE A HUGE BLESSING FOR THE FAMILY. STEPHANIE MOREHEAD SAYS THAT DIFFICULT CIRCUMSTANCES, LIKE A STOLEN AIR CONDITIONER, CAN SOMETIMES TURN INTO A BLESSING.
