1.2 million rechargeable lamps recalled due to fire hazard – WSOC TV

The Consumer Product Safety Commission has announced the recall of more than 1.2 million Good Earth rechargeable lamps.

The lamp’s battery can overheat and cause the plastic casing to catch fire.

One person died and another was treated for smoke inhalation after the lamp overheated and caught fire. There were nine reports of hot lamps, and six cases resulted in fires, the CPSC said.

The following model numbers are part of the recall:

You can find the number on a sticker on the back of the lamp, which is about 30 centimeters long and is sold in single or double packs with a charging cable and with or without a remote control or power supply.

They were available in a variety of colors including white, silver, almond, black and rose gold.

The lamps were sold in stores across the country, including Lowe’s, Ace Hardware, Meijer and Menards. They were also sold online on Good Earth Lighting’s website, Amazon and QVC from October 2017 to January 2024, costing $20 per lamp and $35 for a two-pack.

If you have the lamps, you are asked to stop using them immediately and contact Good Earth Lighting for a free replacement.

You can contact the company by phone at 800-291-8838 from 8:30 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. CT, by email, or online.

You will need to write the date and your initials on the front of the lamp next to the model number and “recalled.” Then you will need to take a photo of it and upload it to the company’s website.

In addition to the 1.2 million units sold in the United States, another 37,800 lamps were sold in Canada, according to the CPSC.
