Road rage incident leads to shooting in Abilene Park | Texas

ABILENE, Texas — Abilene Police have arrested a 26-year-old Abilene man for allegedly shooting a mother and her son in an Abilene park on Sunday, June 2, 2024.

Andre Sanders was arrested on Tuesday, June 4, and charged with two counts of aggravated assault with a deadly weapon and Class B marijuana possession. He faces additional charges while the investigation continues.

On Sunday, June 2, Sanders allegedly followed a 43-year-old mother and her 20-year-old son to Scarborough Park (1128 Corsicana) after an incident of road rage. The mother and son had left their car to walk their pets when, according to witnesses, a man in an orange Jeep got out of the vehicle, pulled out a gun and began shooting at the son, striking him once in the lower body. The son returned fire, striking the Jeep.

Thanks to information from several witnesses on the scene, officers were able to get a good description of the suspect and the vehicle and quickly arrested Sanders. The son was treated for his injuries at the hospital and released. The mother suffered minor injuries.
