Milford man dies in police custody after suspected theft

A man suspected of theft died in police custody on Wednesday morning after a medical incident, authorities said.

Michael Brown, who was wanted on several warrants and suspected of a recent theft at another Milford grocery store, was taken into custody in the parking lot of Big Y on Boston Post Road, according to police.

According to police, Brown apparently suffered a medical event after officers approached him, handcuffed him and took him into custody.

Emergency services were called to the scene and administered Narcan. Brown was taken to the hospital where he died.

The Office of the Inspector General is investigating the incident.
