Jacksonville woman arrested for stealing car from elderly couple in Ormond Beach

Ormond Beach police have arrested a Jacksonville woman accused of attempting to kidnap an elderly couple. Police said they responded to a report of a stolen vehicle at the Exxon gas station, 1622 North US Highway 1, around 10:50 a.m.

Marvette Perry, 36, of Jacksonville was arrested after attempting to violently steal an elderly couple’s car, police said.

Officers discovered that one of the car passengers was holding Perry’s leg, preventing her from escaping.

The press release said a nearby Good Samaritan drew his weapon to ensure the safety of those involved, but put it away when he saw Perry was not reaching for a weapon and also otherwise reminded him that he was armed until police arrived.

Perry resisted arrest but was arrested and taken into custody, police said.

According to the records, Perry is charged with auto theft, burglary with bodily injury, assault on a person over 65 and resisting an officer without the use of violence.

Chief Godfrey said, “The quick response of our officer, the courage of the Good Samaritan and the resilience of the elderly couple were instrumental in preventing an escalation of a potentially dangerous situation.”
