LP suspends interim chairman Ativie

The crisis rocking the Edo State branch of the Labour Party took a new turn yesterday when the state working committee of the party ratified the suspension of its interim leader, former Edo State Speaker, Elizabeth Ativie, over alleged gross misconduct and insubordination.

Recall that on May 25, the Ogbaloi-led State Working Committee suspended the National Chairman, Bar. Julius Aburi, for anti-party activities and on May 27, Abure in turn dissolved the Ogbaloi-led board on the grounds that his term expired in April and installed former Edo Speaker Elizabeth Ativie as interim chairman.

Daily Trust on Sunday reports that the decision to suspend Ativie was taken at an expanded party meeting attended by chairmen and secretaries of local governments.

Ativie’s suspension came less than a week after she was sworn in as acting leader of the LP in the state by the national party leadership.

The party chairman in Uhunmwonde Local Government Area of Ativie, Mr Aghedo Okhiongbamwonyi, said the leadership of their fourth district expelled them from the party on May 4.

Okhiongbamwonyi said the letter was signed by the county chairman and secretary, Charles Usiesefe and Mike Ighile respectively.
