Braves select Spencer Schwellenbach contract, Jimmy Herget option

The Atlanta Braves made it official on Wednesday by selecting the contract of right-handed pitching prospect Spencer Schwellenbach. He will make his major league debut in Wednesday’s game against the Washington Nationals.

Schwellenbach was the Braves’ second-round pick in the 2021 MLB Draft. His professional debut was delayed until 2023 due to Tommy John surgery. He began the 2024 season at High A Rome where he made six starts while posting a 2.53 ERA and 34 strikeouts in 32 innings. This earned him a promotion to Double A Mississippi where he made two starts while pitching 13 scoreless innings. Schwellenbach was ranked as the Braves’ third-best prospect in Battery Power’s preseason top 30 list. With this move, Atlanta’s 40-man roster is now complete.

Herget came to the Braves from the Angels in exchange for cash on May 2. He appeared in two games while allowing two hits and a walk in three scoreless innings.
