Copake man arrested after fatal motorcycle crash

COPAKE, NY (NEWS10) — One person is dead and another has been arrested on suspicion of drunken driving following a crash in Copake. The accident occurred around 9:30 p.m. Saturday.

According to police, Alan Ingraham, 75, of Copake, was driving a pickup truck on State Route 23 when he failed to yield to a motorcycle traveling eastbound. The motorcyclist, 29-year-old Christopher Simmons of Mechanicville, was taken to Columbia Memorial Hospital, where he was pronounced dead.


Ingraham was charged with second-degree manslaughter and driving under the influence. Police said his blood alcohol content was more than twice the legal limit. He was also ticketed for failing to keep to the right and failing to yield the right of way. A passenger in his truck was treated for minor injuries.

He has been charged and is currently out on bail pending a court appearance at a later date.

The investigation is ongoing.
