10 shots, 2 dead on Memorial Day weekend in Cleveland

CLEVELAND – Two people were killed and eight others injured in seven separate shootings in Cleveland over the Memorial Day weekend, police said Tuesday.

Officials detailed incidents from Friday night through Monday, including a four-person shooting that occurred downtown early Sunday morning following an apparent argument. That incident on St. Clair Avenue left three people hospitalized and 28-year-old Tavon Thompson dead. No suspects are currently in custody.

Just after 8 a.m. Monday morning, authorities reported a second homicide. A 28-year-old man was shot and killed on Caine Avenue in Corlett. The victim, Bedford resident Rodney Jefferson, died of his injuries at University Hospitals Cleveland Medical Center. No arrests have been made yet.
