Singapore Airlines changes seatbelt policy after turbulence

Following the severe turbulence incident that left one British passenger dead and dozens more injured, Singapore Airlines has changed its policy on the use of seat belts on board.

The airline will not serve food or drinks to passengers when the seatbelt sign is lit, it said.

“SIA will continue to review our processes as the safety of our passengers and crew is of utmost importance.”

A more “cautious approach” is being pursued.

It is valid for at least one flight route.

According to flight tracking data, the airline did not fly again over the area of Myanmar where the incident occurred.

The London-Singapore flight had 211 passengers and 18 crew members on board when turbulence occurred and it had to be diverted to Bangkok.

46 people were hospitalized, some suffering spinal cord and brain injuries.
