81-year-old arrested after he terrorized a California neighborhood with a slingshot, according to police

An 81-year-old man who investigators say terrorized a Southern California neighborhood with a slingshot for years has been arrested, police said.

During their investigation, detectives found that “over the course of nine to ten years, dozens of citizens fell victim to a serial killer who fired a slingshot,” Asuza police said in a statement.

The man is suspected of breaking windows and windshields and narrowly missing people with ball bearings from a slingshot, the statement said. No injuries were reported.

The man was arrested Thursday after officers executed a search warrant and found a slingshot and ball bearings at his home in Asuza, about 25 miles (40 kilometers) east of Los Angeles, police said.

Azusa Police Lt. Jake Bushey said Saturday that detectives determined most of the ball bearings were shot from the suspect’s backyard.

“We are not aware of any motive other than malicious malice,” Bushey told the Southern California Newsgroup.

He was scheduled to appear in court on Tuesday.
