Police respond to 5 shootings during violent night in Bridgeport

Bridgeport police responded to several shootings over Memorial Day weekend – here’s a breakdown of each incident:

number 1: Police said they were alerted to a gunshot detection call shortly after 8 p.m. Saturday evening.

A man was shot in the hand and leg at PT Barnum Housing. Police believe the shooting occurred near Building 6.

At 9:25 p.m., the victim was admitted to Yale New Haven Hospital with two non-life-threatening gunshot wounds.

Police determined he was the victim. His condition is stable.

No. 2: On Saturday at 10:55 p.m. there was another shooting at PT Barnum Houses.

Police responded and secured a crime scene near buildings 12, 13 and 17.

At 11 p.m., a 21-year-old man was taken to a nearby hospital with a gunshot wound to the lower back. His condition is stable.

No. 3: A third shooting occurred shortly after 11 p.m. on Ezra Street

According to the police report, a 22-year-old man was struck by a bullet in the groin area near Read Elementary School. He is in serious condition.

The shooting is under investigation.

Number 4: Officers responded to Holly Street at 12:35 a.m. Sunday for a report of a person shot.

Police said the victim, a 28-year-old Bridgeport woman, was shot in the face and neck and drove herself to the hospital.

She told officers she was shot while driving her car on Holly Street. She told police the shots were fired from a dark-colored vehicle.

The woman’s condition is critical, but she is expected to survive.

Police do not believe Saturday’s shooting is related to this shooting.

No. 5: The latest shooting occurred at 2:30 a.m. at PT Barnum Housing, the third in several hours.

Officers found a crime scene near the basketball court next to Building 15.

A 21-year-old man was shot in the leg and taken to hospital. His condition is stable.
