Belmont police investigate fatal shooting in O’Donnell Park, believed to be isolated

BELMONT, Calif. (KGO) – A 27-year-old man was shot dead in Belmont on Friday evening, police said Saturday.

Belmont police officers responded to reports of gunfire in O’Donnell Park at the corner of Hiller and Irwin Streets around 8 p.m., where they found the victim with multiple gunshot wounds.

Despite emergency medical treatment, the man was pronounced dead at the scene of the accident, police said.

The crime scene was investigated throughout the night by detectives from the San Mateo County District Attorney’s Office and a forensics team from the San Mateo County Sheriff’s Office.

The shooting was believed to be an isolated incident; police did not believe there was an ongoing threat to the community.

Police urged anyone with information about the shooting to contact the department, including anyone who may have been driving in the area with a dashboard camera and residents who have private cameras facing the street.
