Boston police arrest man with loaded gun during drug investigation

BOSTON – Officers from the Boston Police Department’s B-3 Drug Control Unit arrested a suspect with a loaded firearm Thursday as part of a drug investigation.

At approximately 1:30 p.m., officers from the Mattapan-based unit arrested Ruben Charles, 33, of Hyde Park, on a weapons charge near River Street and Edgewater Drive as part of an ongoing drug investigation.

Police were searching for Charles, who had two arrest warrants and was suspected of being armed.

After officers observed Charles and an unidentified woman entering a vehicle, they followed them but lost sight of the car on River Street.

They then continued the search on foot.

Charles and the woman were eventually located at 1281 River Street.

During the arrest, officers found a Bersa Thunder pistol in Charles’ waistband, loaded with one round in the chamber and four rounds in the magazine.

Charles is charged with illegal possession of a firearm and ammunition.

The arrest warrant was also executed for a burglary in broad daylight.

He is scheduled to be arraigned in Dorchester District Court.
