Wires on the tracks cause significant delays at the Newark-Penn station

PHILADELPHIA (CBS) – Heading North Amtrak service between Philadelphia and New York City is resuming after an hours-long disruption Wednesday evening due to cable disruptions in Kearny, New Jersey, an Amtrak spokesman said.

The southbound trains started again earlier in the evening.

“We sincerely apologize for any inconvenience and thank you for your patience as we navigate this unexpected situation,” Amtrak wrote in a statement. “Customers with reservations for affected trains will typically be accommodated on trains with similar departure times or on a different day.”

The downed lines also affected New Jersey Transit trains traveling to and from New York. Riders should expect more delays Thursday, New Jersey Transit said on X.
