Suspect arrested after shooting man outside a gas station in South Nashville, Tennessee

NASHVILLE, Tenn. (WKRN) – A 27-year-old is behind bars weeks after he allegedly shot a man outside a South Nashville gas station.

According to court documents, shortly after 2 a.m. on Saturday, May 4, officers were called to MAPCO in the 5000 block of Linbar Drive to respond to a call about a person shot.

Officers said they assisted the victim until paramedics arrived and transported him to Vanderbilt University Medical Center.

Witnesses at the scene described the suspect as a man wearing a tight white shirt and jeans, about 6 feet tall and at least 25 years old, officials said.

Investigators said they spoke with the victim before he was taken to the hospital. During the brief conversation, the victim reportedly told them that he had been shot by 27-year-old Damian Cruz.

After further investigation, officers learned that the victim had gone to MAPCO to retrieve his girlfriend’s vehicle, which was allegedly stolen by Cruz.

According to court documents, the victim called for Cruz after spotting him at the gas station. Cruz allegedly pulled out a silver handgun and shot the victim once in the stomach.

Cruz was positively identified as a suspect and charged with aggravated assault causing serious bodily injury and public intoxication.

He remains in jail on a $31,000 bond.
