Iowa Department of Transportation employee killed in crash on Interstate 80 near Neola

NEOLA, Iowa (WOWT) – A man was killed and another injured in a crash Thursday in Pottawattamie County.

Authorities responded to a collision on Interstate 80 near mile marker 13 between Underwood and Neola around 9 a.m. An early investigation revealed a tractor-trailer was traveling eastbound on I-80 in a line of cars where two lanes were narrowed to one for road maintenance work.

According to the Iowa State Patrol, an Iowa Department of Transportation pickup truck pulling an asphalt trailer was parked with arrow lights on to alert drivers of the left lane closure ahead.

ISP identified the maintenance worker as 36-year-old Matthew Dickerson of Neola. He died at the scene of the accident.

The worker driving the Iowa DOT vehicle, a 35-year-old man, suffered injuries in the accident. The incident remains under investigation.
