Delhi Capitals captain Rishabh Pant has been fined Rs 3 million and given a one-match ban after his team posted a slow over rate in their clash against Rajasthan Royals in the ongoing Indian Premier League (IPL) 2024.

This was the third time Pant was fined for maintaining a slow overrate. He was fined for the first two offenses but after DC breached the IPL code of conduct for the third time in the ongoing Indian Premier League (IPL), Pant was suspended for one match.

IPL released an official statement announcing the decision, which said, “Mr. Rishabh Pant, captain of Delhi Capitals, has been fined and suspended for one match for violating the IPL Code of Conduct after his team lost in the 56th game showed a slow over rate.” TATA Indian Premier League (IPL) 2024 vs Rajasthan Royals at Arun Jaitley Stadium, Delhi on May 7, 2024.”

“As it was his team’s third offense of the season under the IPL Code of Conduct regarding minimum overage violations, Rishabh Pant was fined INR 30 Lac and suspended for one match. The remaining members of the playing eleven, including the impact players, have each been individually fined either INR 12 Lac or 50 percent of their respective match fees, whichever is less,” the statement added.

Pursuant to Article 8 of the IPL Code of Conduct, Delhi Capitals appealed against the match referee’s decision. The complaint was then forwarded to the BCCI Ombudsman for consideration. The Ombudsman held a virtual hearing and confirmed that the match referee’s decision remains final and binding.

DC took on the Royals last Tuesday and picked up a 20-run win to keep their hopes of a playoff spot alive.

RR won the toss and elected to bowl first.
