Burton’s mother pleads guilty to criminal sexual conduct and child abuse

GRAND BLANC TWP., Michigan (WNEM) — A Burton woman pleaded guilty to criminal sexual conduct and child abuse after she allegedly forced her daughter to engage in sexual activity with her neighbor.

In March 2023, Jenny Ellen Brewer, now 38, was arrested for allegedly forcing her 9-year-old daughter to go to her neighbor’s house and engage in sexual activity with him.

Police received a tip that led them to launch an investigation on March 8, 2023.

Investigators arranged a Voices for Children interview with the victim, who was 11 years old at the time. During the interview, the child said she had been sexually abused by her neighbor, according to Genesee County Prosecutor David Leyton.

The victim told investigators that her mother would receive a text message telling her to go to the neighbor’s house, Leyton said, adding that the neighbor sometimes gave the child a stuffed animal.

The mother also reportedly took part in the crimes, Leyton said.

Leyton said it is believed the mother received some sort of reward or compensation in exchange for the child’s actions, which constitutes a case of human trafficking in addition to child abuse.

Brewer has been charged with multiple felonies in connection with the alleged crimes.

On Thursday, May 9, Brewer agreed to a plea deal and pleaded guilty to one count of second-degree criminal sexual conduct and one count of second-degree child abuse. All other charges against her were dismissed.

Her hearing is scheduled for Tuesday, May 21 at 9 a.m

The neighbor, Eddie Lowell Ehrisman, was also charged with multiple felonies, including 12 counts of first-degree criminal sexual conduct.

A final preliminary hearing for Ehrisman is scheduled for Tuesday, May 21 at 9 a.m. and a jury trial is scheduled for June 6 at 8:30 a.m
