Family and friends hold a vigil in honor of the three-year-old who was killed

A week after three-year-old Ty’ah Settles was shot, police are still searching for the suspect.

WASHINGTON – It’s been a week since 3-year-old Ty’ah Settles was shot and killed in Southeast D.C. On Friday, family and friends continued to ask the public for help in finding her killer.

“Anyone with information about this senseless act of violence should come forward,” said Amina Gasaway, Ty’ah’s aunt.

Over 50 people gathered for a vigil in honor of the three-year-old girl as police continued to search for her killer.

WUSA9 has heard from her family and as you can imagine, it is heartbreaking. Nothing will bring Ty’ah back, but her loved ones want the gun violence to stop.

“A vibrant and innocent three-year-old who tragically lost her life due to senseless gun violence,” Gasaway said.

Family and friends are at a loss as they set out to seek justice.

“As a family, we are devastated by the devastating loss of our loved one, Ty’ah Settles,” Gasaway said.

Three-year-old Ty’ah was shot and killed in Southeast DC a week ago. According to police, a bullet passed through the car she was driving on Hartford Street.

“Ty’ah was simply a passenger with her parents and siblings, innocently going about her day like any other toddler,” Gasaway said.

The love and affection was reflected in the colorful balloons and flowers laid out on her memorial day on Friday.

“Ty’ah was a bright light in our lives, filled with laughter, joy and boundless energy,” Gasaway said. “Her death has left an irreplaceable hole in our hearts that can never be filled.”

As Inspiration takes on this journey in search of answers, the family hopes to protect other children from something similar.

“In her memory, we will continue to inspire us to work to end gun violence in our communities,” Gasaway said.

On Friday, police distributed the fliers to remind people of the reward of up to $50,000 for information leading to an arrest. You can remain anonymous. The community gathered for a vigil with Ty’ah’s relatives but asked for privacy. X
