Fatal accident in March still under investigation | Local News

Coroner: Driver died as a result of blunt force injuries

The Lawrence County Coroner ruled a crash on Falls Street at Sampson Street Thursday…

The investigation into a two-vehicle collision that killed a 60-year-old man on March 21 is ongoing.

New Castle Police Cpl. Chris Fabian said Thursday he expects charges will be filed against the driver of the other car pending further investigation.

The Lawrence County Coroner determined that the Falls Street crash at Sampson Street was the direct cause of death for Randall Shropshire, who was driving a pickup truck. An autopsy revealed that Shropshire died from multiple blunt force injuries to the head, neck and chest. He was pronounced dead at the scene.

According to police, around noon, Shropshire was driving a red pickup truck west on Falls Street in the city when a southbound white sedan driven by Laresha Perkins, 23, of the city’s East Side, left the intersection Sampson Street turned into his path and hit him and his truck almost went head-on.

The truck landed on a steep embankment outside of Westview Terrace. Perkins’ car suffered severe damage to the front end. She was taken to hospital by ambulance with unknown injuries.

There was also significant damage to the truck and both vehicles were towed away.

Fabian said that Shropshire wasn’t wearing a seatbelt and that Perkins had hers on. Police are reviewing surveillance videos of the area, Fabian said.

Suspects are presumed innocent until proven guilty or a court decides against them.
