Young girls in Chennai stop on the way to awareness of sexual and reproductive health rights

CHENNAI: In a powerful show of unity and empowerment, hundreds of young girls took part in a fundraising run on Besant Nagar beach on Sunday evening to raise awareness about sexual and reproductive health and rights (SRHR).

The event was organised by Snehidhi, an association initiated by the Centre for Women’s Development and Research (CWDR). The aim of the event was to highlight the importance of SRHR education and resources for young girls in order to promote a healthier, informed and confident generation.

Nearly 400 young girls, their families, community leaders and various stakeholders took part in the fundraiser.

The event also included interactive sessions, motivational speeches and cultural performances, creating a festive and educational atmosphere.

A 15-year-old participant in the fundraiser said: “It was incredible to see so many people come together for this cause. I learned a lot today and feel more confident about my rights and my health.”

The charity run was opened by Ram Mohan, secretary of the Tamil Nadu General Congress (TNCC), who also accompanied the girls.

Other awareness-raising initiatives include workshops, community outreach programs, and collaboration with local schools and health experts.
