One person was found dead Friday in a fire that spread to two homes in Modesto, according to the fire department. The Modesto Fire Department said when crews arrived, they found heavy fire and black smoke engulfing a residential building and flames spreading to a neighboring home.

A person was found dead in one of the houses, the fire department said. Their identity was not disclosed.

According to the authorities, the fire brigade managed to limit the fire to the two affected houses.

Investigators are working to determine the cause of the fire.
