Teenager arrested for murder of father and Salem DJ

Investigators have not yet released any information about the motive. 42-year-old Oscar Lizardo Chaidez was found lying on the side of Interstate 5 in May.

SALEM, Oregon – Oregon State Police confirmed they have made an arrest in connection with the murder of a Salem father of three. The suspect appears to be a young girl.

In May, police discovered the body of 42-year-old Oscar Lizardo Chaidez on southbound Interstate 5 near the Charbonneau exit. Investigators suspected homicide.

Oregon State Police told KGW that they had arrested a minor in the case. The Oregonian identified the suspect as a 17-year-old. Citing Clackamas County Juvenile Court records, the newspaper said she was charged with second-degree murder and use of a dangerous weapon.

“We are all baffled as to how this could have happened and why,” said Michael Kirchoff, a close friend of Chaidez. “The investigators did their job and they were very concerned that a person of color had disappeared and not just become another statistic.”

Kirchoff, who also performs as DJ My-G, knew Chaidez through their shared love of music. Chaidez performed under the name DJ Ozroc. Kirchoff said Chaidez would do anything to help his family and friends. He fears his urge to help others may have put him in danger.

“(Chaidez) said to one of my friends, ‘Oh, I just wanted to take care of this girl,'” Kirchoff recalls. “I had never met her; I don’t know who she is. I don’t even know how she fits into his world.”

It is now a world without Chaidez, but perhaps we are one step closer to understanding why this is so.

“I’m glad there is some kind of justice,” Kirchoff said.
