Stray cat in Brevard County tests positive for rabies

BREVARD COUNTY, Florida. – The Brevard County Health Department is warning the community after a stray cat was diagnosed with rabies.

According to a press release, the animal was killed on July 17 in the area of ​​Lynn Avenue and Laurie Street.

Health authorities are urging everyone to be alert to wildlife in the area and reminding everyone to keep themselves and their pets away from any physical contact with wildlife.

The Rabies Warning is in effect for the next 60 days for the following areas: Northern Border: North Harbor City Boulevard, Southern Border: Lorraine Drive, Eastern Border: South Babcock Street, Western Border: Magnolia Avenue.

If an animal bites your pet or livestock, seek immediate veterinary attention for the animal and contact Brevard County Sherriff’s Office (BCSO) Animal Control Services at 321-633-2024

If you have been bitten or scratched by a wild or domestic animal, seek medical attention and report the injury to DOH-Brevard at 321-634-6337, option 3.
