Man arrested for murder after Spearfish man’s death

RAPID CITY, SD (KOTA) – A 30-year-old Spearfish man has died as a result of a drug-related crime and the man suspected of being responsible has been arrested.

On June 10, the Lawrence County Dispatch Center (LCDC) received a call from a remote cabin in the Richmond Hill Road area requesting assistance for a man with medical issues.

Lawrence County Police, Lawrence County Search and Rescue and Lead Deadwood Monument Ambulance Service responded. LCDC received a second call stating the man was now in a medical emergency on Roman Road near Maitland Road. When they arrived, the man was pronounced dead. The man was a 30-year-old resident of Spearfish and died from a combination of heroin and fentanyl intoxication, according to the Lawrence County Coroner and Pathologist.

Dan Snyder was charged with second-degree manslaughter, unauthorized distribution of a Schedule I or II substance, unauthorized possession of a controlled substance, unauthorized ingestion of a controlled substance, possession of marijuana, and possession of drug paraphernalia.

Snyder is being held without bail in the Lawrence County Jail.

The investigation is ongoing.
