Fugitive arrested accused of sexual abuse of minor: Naugatuck PD

NAUGATUCK, CT — A man accused of sexually abusing a minor and wanted by Naugatuck police was arrested this week on a warrant in Georgia, police said.

In a press release, police said the department received information on Monday that Jamel Young, a 53-year-old man accused of sexually abusing a 9-year-old girl while living in Naugatuck, was staying at a home in Brunswick, Georgia.

An arrest warrant issued against Young accuses him of first-degree sexual assault, attempted first-degree sexual assault, fourth-degree sexual assault and endangering minors.

According to police, the arrest warrant included extradition to any country and a court-set bail of $750,000.

Young is currently in custody in Georgia and will be extradited to Connecticut at a later date, police said.

“We would like to thank the Brunswick Police Department and the FBI in New Haven for their assistance in locating and arresting Young,” police said in a press release.
