Justin Verlander pitches from mound after neck injury

Astros veteran right-hander Justin Verlander pitched from the mound Sunday for the first time since being placed on the disabled list last month.

Manager Joe Espada said things were “good” with Verlander after his workout.

“He threw all his pitches — the fastball, the changeup and the slider,” Espada said. “He looked really good. We’ll see how he feels (Monday). The plan is for him to throw another pitch here (during the All-Star break).”

Espada said it was “too premature” to discuss a possible minor league rehab assignment for Verlander, who has been sidelined since being scratched before his scheduled start June 15 against Detroit.
