Downed trees and power lines as storms moved through metro Atlanta Tuesday

ATLANTA, Ga. (Atlanta News First) – Crews are working to clear trees blocking part of a busy road in Grant Park.

It’s a continuation of fast-moving storms that moved through the Atlanta metro area Thursday morning.

One of the trees fell from Julian Curry’s yard along Cherokee Avenue.

“I was in my room working this morning and I heard this kind of deep whistling sound that sounded like a storm or a tornado outside my room,” Curry said.

The felled trees also destroyed power lines.

Crews from Fairway Electric Inc. were working to replace utility poles and restore power. You can view Georgia Power’s outage map here.

Curry says he counts his blessings: “My immediate thought was, thank God this didn’t fall on my house with my 11-month-old daughter in there, that was my immediate thought.”

Cherokee Avenue is expected to reopen Thursday.
