The Buffalo Bills have a chance to make team history in 2024, but it won’t be easy

The ultimate goal of every NFL team should be to get on stage in February and hoist the Lombardi Trophy. Ultimately, that should be the mindset of every franchise. However, we do have an idea of which teams have a realistic chance of making the playoffs. As for the Buffalo Bills, they have been in the Super Bowl conversation since 2020 and almost made it that season until they met the Kansas City Chiefs. Every year since then, they have fallen short in the second round of the playoffs. Many believe the Bills will take a step back and it is very possible. But there are still those who believe and are optimistic about what the Bills can do in 2024.

The record is split between Sean McDermott. He came in and cleaned up the mess that Rex Ryan created and built a winning culture. The biggest criticism of him is that he hasn’t been able to elevate the Bills to the next level. Yes, he got them to a conference championship game, but he can’t seem to get over the hump when it comes to beating the Chiefs in the playoffs. While the Bills have their hurdles to overcome, the future looks bright as long as Josh Allen is under center.

Up until 2020, the Bills have been on the negative side of history. There’s the obvious fact that they’ve won four straight Super Bowls and have the longest playoff drought at one point (17 years). Since 2020, they’ve finished last in the AFC East eight times. History hasn’t been very kind to the Bills.

Heading into 2024, the Bills are coming off a disappointing offseason, but they have some assets that could propel them to the top of the division. There’s continuity in coaching, they have players with good heads on their shoulders, and there aren’t high expectations due to all the losses they suffered as free agents.

Buffalo won four straight division championships from 2020-23. Each year it has been harder and harder to win the division, but they have taken control of the AFC East. Until a team like the Jets or Dolphins takes the division from the Bills, fans should not think Buffalo is going to give up.

Last season marked the third time in Bills history that they have won four consecutive division titles. The other two four-year stretches came from 1988-91 and 1963-66. If the Bills can pull off an upset and win the division again in 2024, it will be the first time in team history that they have won the AFC East five years in a row.

Clearly, the Bills are looking to accomplish more than just a division title. At the same time, it’s nice to know that this Bills team, which has many doubters, can make franchise history.
