Toddlers and parents killed in ATV accident in Morgan County

A family of four was killed in an ATV accident in Morgan County, according to the Colorado State Patrol and the county coroner.

Two 22-year-old parents and their 1- and 2-year-old sons from a blended family were killed at the intersection of two county roads in Morgan County – about 90 miles northwest of Denver – around 3:30 p.m. Wednesday afternoon, Morgan County Coroner Mike Dahl said in a telephone interview.

According to the State Patrol, the four were on their way home from an unknown location when the Polaris RZR ATV they were in ignored a stop sign and collided sideways with a Dodge Ram 5500 truck carrying a person.

The driver of the Ram was injured and in serious condition when he was taken from the intersection to the hospital, a statement from the Colorado State Patrol said. Dahl said he did not know the name, age or gender of the crash survivor.

Dahl said he did not know if drugs or alcohol were involved or if the vehicle’s occupants were wearing seat belts. As of Thursday afternoon, some but not all family members of those killed in the crash had been notified, so their names have not been released.

He added that autopsies are being performed.

“We usually get these results in six to eight weeks,” he said.
